PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — A 6-mile stretch of State Route 7 north of Alder Cutoff Road East has been closed after heavy rain triggered several rockslides, according to the Washington Department of Transportation.
Officials said, the highway will stay closed from SR 7 at Alder to the State Route 161 intersection until WSDOT engineers and maintenance crews can assess the slides Monday to determine what work is needed to reopen the road.
Drivers can take the detour via Alder Cutoff Road and SR 161 during the closure.
WSDOT said overweight loads can use SR 7 to U.S. 12, I-5 to SR 507 to State Route 702 to get back on SR 7.
Drivers can get real-time traveler information through WSDOT’s app.
