Amtrak Cascades to resume service after landslide in Tacoma

UPDATE: Amtrak Cascades service between Seattle and Portland will resume starting Monday after a landslide closed a stretch of the tracks Friday in Tacoma.

A Burlington Northern Santa Fe representative said both lines, 8 miles south of the city are back open.

ORIGINAL STORY: Service for Amtrak Cascades has been suspended between Seattle and Portland after a landslide closed railroad tracks Friday morning in Tacoma.

The slide happened 8 miles south of Tacoma.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe, the owner of the tracks, put in affect a passenger train moratorium after a continuous slide all day Friday.

Chartered buses will take passengers from Seattle to Portland until 8:55 a.m. Sunday, officials said.

Amtrak officials said operations of the Amtrak Cascades and Coast Starlight trains to and from points south of Portland are largely unaffected.

Amtrak officials said those who have reservations on trains that are modified will generally be accommodated on trains with similar departure times or shifted to another day.

Cascades trains affected during the 48-hour moratorium:

· Train 500: Eugene (EUG) - PDX runs live, 500: PDX - SEA is replaced with a bus.

· Train 501: SEA - PDX is replaced with a bus.

· Train 504: PDX - SEA is replaced with a bus.

· Train 505: SEA - PDX is replaced with a bus, 505: PDX - EUG operates live.

· Train 507: SEA - PDX is replaced with a bus.

· Train 508: EUG - SEA is replaced with a bus.

· Train 517: Runs live Vancouver, BC (VAC) - SEA, 517 SEA - PDX is replaced with a bus.

· Train 518: PDX - SEA is replaced with a bus, 518 SEA - VAC operates live.

· Train 11: SEA - PDX is a bus with equipment DH SEA - PDX and operating live PDX - LAX.

· Train 14: Train 14(19) turns in PDX for 11(21). Passengers PDX - SEA bus.

Saturday, December 21:

· Train 506: EUG - PDX runs live, 506: PDX - SEA is replaced with a bus.

· Train 501: SEA - PDX is replaced with a bus.

· Train 502: PDX - SEA is replaced with a bus.

· Train 505: SEA - PDX is replaced with a bus, 505: PDX - EUG operates live.

· Train 507: SEA - PDX is replaced with a bus.

· Train 508: EUG - PDX runs live, 508 PDX - SEA is replaced with a bus.

· Train 517: Runs live VAC - SEA, 517 SEA - PDX is replaced with a bus.

· Train 518: PDX - SEA is replaced with a bus, 518 SEA - VAC operates live.

· Train 11: Originates in PDX with equipment off 14(19). Passengers bus SEA - PDX.

· Train 14: Equipment runs live LAX - PDX Passengers bus PDX - SEA, Equipment operates DH PDX - SEA.
